Obituary

Richard H. "Dick" Burns, age 92, of Troy, Ohio died December 8, 2022. He was born on September 26, 1930 in Ridgewood, New Jersey to the late Robert O. and Opal M. Burns. He married Beverly (Ritchie) Burns of Lexington, Kentucky on September 9, 1953 and she preceded him in death on September 21, 2012.

Dick is survived by two children: Dr. Richard H. Burns Jr. of Reunion, Florida and Laura (Burns) Scarff of Naperville, Illinois and three grandchildren: Rachel and Joel Burns and Andrew Scarff. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Burns.

He graduated Auburn University in 1953 with an Industrial Design degree and was a member of the ROTC from 1949 to 1953. Dick served two years of active duty in the US Army as Second Lieutenant and an additional seven years in the Springfield Army Reserve with the rank of Captain.

Dick worked at Hobart Food Equipment in Troy, Ohio from 1955 to 1985. He was the owner and president of IDE Design in Troy since 1995. He served several terms on the Troy City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, BOCA International, American Defense Preparedness, and the Farm Equipment Manufacturers Association.

He attended Koinos Christian Fellowship in Troy Ohio since 2016 and previously attended the First United Methodist, First Baptist and First Presbyterian Churches of Troy and Grace Baptist Church in Cedarville.

A private interment will take place in Winter Park, Florida.  Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice of charity.
