Richard (Dick) Bemus passed away December 19, 2014 at Lane Park Memory Center, Huber Heights, after a lengthy illness. Born August 3, 1934 to Richard D. Bemus Sr. and Helen (Alexander) Bemus. Married to his loving wife, Belva (Supinger) Bemus, June 29, 1957 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Piqua.
Dick had two sons, Brad (Laura) Bemus of Troy and Bart (Lisa) Bemus of Chicago, IL.; four grandchildren, Benjamin (Brittany) Bemus of Carbondale, KA, Andrew Bemus of Harper's Ferry, WV, Libby (Jake) Langston of Troy, and Max Bemus Tower of Lyle, WA. He is also survived by sisters, Gretchen (Lew) Tower of Seattle, WA, Anita Atkinson of San Diego, CA, brother, Don (Jean) Bemus of Johnstown, OH; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald and Beverly Supinger of Piqua and many cousins.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Steve, Bob and Hank and sister, Diane.
Dick was a 1952 graduate of Piqua Central High School. In 1958 he graduated from General Motors Institute with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He was employed by Standard Register for 18 years then worked as a sales engineer for an additional 18 years for Fife Corporation of Oklahoma City, OK. He received numerous top sales awards in this position. Over his career he received patents in his name and belonged to engineering organizations.
He enjoyed travel and spending winters in Florida after retirement.
Previously, he was a cub scout leader, a scuba diving instructor and assisted with the hikes of the Buckeye Trails Association. More recently, he enjoyed working as a volunteer naturalist at Brukner Nature Center. He was also an avid bridge player and took part in several men's and mixed groups. He attended Ginghamsburg Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Baird Funeral Home in Troy. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Piqua. The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick's name to Brukner Nature Center, 5995 Horseshoe Bend Road, Troy, Ohio 45373 or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
