Dr. Richard C. Bellas Dr. Richard C. Bellas, 67, of Troy, Ohio, passed away at 6:56PM on Monday, July 14, 2008, at Mt. Carmel St. Anne's Hospital, Westerville, Ohio following a sudden illness. He was born in Kingston, PA on March 25, 1941, to the late Joseph and Anna Bagdon Bellas. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Ann Wollhower Bellas; three sons: Joseph R. Bellas and his wife, Carol – Troy, OH; John H. Bellas and his wife Jennifer – Columbus, OH; and Robert A. Bellas and his wife Rachel – Columbus, OH; four grandchildren: Joshua, Xander, Katie and Olivia; one sister, Jean Rahl of Luzerne, PA; a nephew, Michael Rahl and a niece, Joanne Rahl. He received a BA degree in education from Wilkes College in 1962 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1966 from the University of Arkansas. He was a Missile Launch Officer in the US Air Force when he was assigned to Little Rock Air Force Base in 1962. He earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in Little Rock in 1971. He served in numerous leadership positions over the next decade including Chief of Aerospace Medicine at Little Rock Air Force Base, Chief of Radiology and 656th TAC Hospital Commander at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, and Chief of Diagnostic Radiology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He retired as a Colonel from the Air Force in 1982. He was the Chief of Radiology at Dettmer Hospital, Troy, Ohio from 1982-87 and Chief of Staff, Dettmer Hospital, 1987 and became the President and sole proprietor of Troy Radiologists, Inc. from 1988-2000. Dr. Bellas was the Past-President of Troy Lions Club for several years; a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Dayton, Ohio, where he was a member of the choir for 28 years; he was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, a member of the Troy Country Club and a member of the Miami County Medical Society. He served as "Santa Claus" the past several years and made many appearances around Miami County. Golf was his passion and he liked teaching about the game as much as playing it. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 22 Notre Dame Ave., Dayton, Ohio, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Holloran officiating. Interment will take place at Rest Hills Memorial Park, Little Rock, Arkansas with military honors at the graveside. Friends may call from 4-8PM on Friday at Baird Funeral Home, Troy and from 10-11AM on Saturday at Our Lady of the Rosary, Dayton. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary School, 40 Notre Dame Ave., Dayton, OH 45404 and St. Patrick Catholic School, 409 E. Main Street, Troy, OH 45373.
