IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rhoda C.
Schmidt
September 30, 1930 – October 23, 2025
Rhoda C. Schmidt, of Troy, Ohio was born September 30, 1930 in Vicco, KY to the late Thomas F. and Edna (Watson) Carroll and lived a very long and fruitful life. Much beloved Rhoda passed away at age 95, October 23, 2025.
She is survived by her daughter: Robin Pearson (Tim Murray) of Troy; son: Timothy Schmidt (Karen McKenzie) of Dayton; grandchildren: Gillian Gabriel (Thomas Duggan) of Urbana, IL and Danielle Gabriel (Chris Casillas) of Beavercreek; brother: Jim (Barbara) Carroll of Choctaw, Oklahoma; brother-in-law: Jerry Ballard of Troy; sister-in-law Connie Carroll of Columbus; myriad half-siblings; and many loved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years: Herbert J. Schmidt; brothers: Charlie, Bill, John, Bob, Joe and Ray Carroll and sisters: Zella Sandlin, Alma Stevens, Susan Carroll, Kitty Dowd, and Eunice Ballard, best friend and co-conspirator.
Rhoda's mother died when she was ten. Being the oldest girl at home, she took on the role of family cook, caregiver to her younger siblings, and general farm hand. She was a hard worker and there wasn't anything she couldn't do if she set her mind to it. She had a keen entrepreneurial spirit. In the 60's she sewed and sold Barbie clothes, as well as painted and sold ceramic Christmas trees. In the 70's and 80's she sewed and sold kitchen towels. She refinished wood furniture. She upholstered sofas and chairs. She loved gardening and canning. Her greatest joy was loving and caring for her family.
Rhoda attended the First Lutheran Church in Troy. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter # 256 and the Ladies Auxiliary of Coleman Commandery # 17. Her work history was as varied as her interests. She was an usher at the historic Ohio Theater in Columbus, pressed 45's for Decca Records in Richmond, Indiana, built water heaters at A.O Smith in Tipp City and was employed by Super 8 in Troy.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Randall Residences (now StoryPoint) of Tipp City and Affinity Hospice for their compassionate and outstanding care.
A Visitation will be held on November 3, 2025 from 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. Private interment will take place in Miami Memorial Park in Covington.
