Dr. Ramon B. Perez, of Troy, died at his home on July 25, 2003. He was born on October 23, 1925 in Baez, Las Villas, Cuba to the late Ramon and Adela RuanoPerez. His wife of 49 years, Carmen L. Otero Perez, survives him. He is also survived by three sons and their wives, Carlos and Harriett Perez of Danville, PA; Frank and Maureen Perez of Springboro, OH and Raymond and Celia Perez of Vestavia Hills, AL; one daughter and her husband, Maria and Ed Crist of Troy. Other survivors include twelve grandchildren, Kyle; Jack, Nick; Patrick; Sean; Adam; Vincent; Alex and Carmen Perez; and Sarah; William and Ryan Crist. He is also survived by one brother, Orlando Perez of Florida. After completing medical school in Cuba and pediatric residencies in Cleveland, New York and Atlanta, Dr. Perez established a medical practice, Troy Pediatrics, and was a pediatrician in Troy for over forty years. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Perez also engaged in scientific research and was a published author in the Journal of Pediatrics for his discovery of the eye-popping reflex in infants. As a board certified pediatrician, he was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, he served on numerous medical boards and was a strong advocate for child healthcare. He was an active member of the Troy Country Club and a longtime parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Hospice of Miami County or Dr. Perez' favorite charity, the Leukemia Society.
