Ralph E. Hiegel Ralph E. Hiegel, age 98, of Troy, Ohio, passed away at 8:40PM on August 10, 2011 at the Caldwell House, Troy. He was born on June 7, 1913 in Shelby County, Ohio to the late Joseph and Charlotte Belle Doren Hiegel. His wife, Opal B. Shoemaker Hiegel, preceded him in death on June 5, 1994. Mr. Hiegel is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law: Don and Pat Hiegel and Larry and Teresa Hiegel all of Troy; one sister, Josephine Urick of Casstown, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Shoemaker of New Carlisle, Ohio; Five grandchildren and spouses: Rob Connie Hiegel of Casstown, Ohio, Julie Dan Millhouse of Covington, Ohio, Della Steve Blunk of Columbus, Ohio, Darla Mike Greene of Ashland, Kentucky and Jill Joe McKeeman of Plain City, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren: J.T., Coy and Catey Hiegel all of Casstown, Abby, Justin and Lydie Millhouse all of Piqua and Landon Blunk of Columbus, Ohio; one great-great grandchild, Nevaeh Sanders-Hiegel; and a very special friend, Fern Metcalf. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Hiegel was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Hiegel and one sister, Donna Cozatt. He was a graduate of Elizabeth School and worked as a farmer. Mr. Hiegel was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church of New Carlisle and a former member of Cove Springs Grange and Miami County Farm Bureau. Services will be held 11:00AM Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio with Pastor Leonard Benson officiating. Burial will be in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Ohio.
