Pastor Douglas R. Magin, age 76, of Troy, OH, passed away on February 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 6, 1947, in Rochester, NY, to the late Jerome A. and Marjorie (Merzke) Magin.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Carol E. (Gares) Magin; four children: Jonathan Magin of Troy, OH, Sharon (Joel) Misirian of Troy, OH, Susan (Kent) Blackford of Sidney, OH, and Jennifer (Jarid) Mayo of Fairborn, OH; eight grandchildren: Kaitlyn Misirian, Mackenzie Misirian, Landon Misirian, Carter Misirian, Keegan Blackford, Jax Blackford, Liam Blackford, and Arielle Blackford; brother: Robert (Marilyn) Magin of Williamson, NY; sister-in-law: Jean Gares of Troy, OH, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Carol McLouth.
He was the visionary founder of Troy Christian Schools and served as a pastor with First Baptist Church for 50 years. He had a passion for people and loved spending family time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed swimming, yardwork, reading, and research.
Pastor Magin had an extensive education beginning at Wayne Central High School, Ontario Center, NY, Bachelor of Arts from Houghton College, Houghton, NY, with a major in Religion and a minor in Math, Master of Divinity from Bethel Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN, with a major in Christian Education, Doctor of Ministry from Grace Theological Seminary, Winona Lake, IN. He trained as a Biblical Counselor with The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (formerly known as NANC) and was an Executive Associate with Word of Life (Schroon Lake, NY).
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Troy Christian High School gymnasium with Pastor Dale Christian officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Troy.
