Oscar W. "Bus" Allen Jr. Oscar W. "Bus" Allen Jr., age 91, of Clare Bridge at the Sterling House, Troy, went home to be with his beloved wife, Vera on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2011. He was born on May 25, 1919 in Troy to the late Oscar W. Allen Sr. and Grace G. Gillis Allen. He married Vera G. McKinney on July 3, 1943 in Austin, Texas and she preceded him in death on August 3, 1999. He was remarried in 2005 to Flora Brandenburg Dilworth and she also preceded him in death. Survivors include six sons and six daughters-in-law: William S. and Paula Allen of Dayton, Ohio, Kay Allen of Troy, Thomas R. and Letha Allen of Troy, Anthony J. and Sherri Allen of Troy, Joseph L. and Charissa Allen of Henderson, Tennessee, James R. and Amy Allen of Tipp City, Ohio and Robert P. Allen of Troy; two daughters and sons-in-law: Mary G. and James Ross of Troy and Patti L. and Scotty McKay of Great Falls, Montana; 24 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his first wife Vera and his second wife Flora, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by one son, Oscar W. Allen III; three brothers: Raymond, Samuel and John Allen; and three sisters, Almyra Zile, Fern Young and Anna McBride. He was a 1938 graduate of Troy High School and was one of the original founders of the Troy High School Athletic Booster Association. He received the citizen of the year award twice and served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII as Tech Sergeant. He was co-chairman of the fundraiser for Troy Memorial Football Stadium. He was a lifelong resident of Troy and a member of the Elks Lodge BPOE No. 833 and Past Exalted Ruler; member of the American Legion Post 43, Troy and Past Commander; and a member at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Troy where he served as a lay minister. Mr. Allen retired in 1971 after 31 years as a rural mail carrier for the US Post Office. He also retired from Shannesy Appliance. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Troy, with Rev. Fr. James Duell officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy with American Legion Military Honors. Friends may call from 4-8PM on Friday, February 18, 2011 at Baird Funeral Home.
