IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nona Cruea
Batten
February 16, 1925 – February 17, 2019
Nona Cruea Batten passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on February 17, 2019 at Randall Residence of Tipp City, where she had received loving care for nearly two years. She was born to Ambrose and Theresa (Ebert) Cruea on February 16, 1925 in Dayton. She married Bruce B. Batten in 1954; he preceded her in death on April 28, 2016.
Nona is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Debra and Steven Van Horn of Tipp City; grandson: Joshua Keyes of Rochester, Minnesota; granddaughter: Jessica Keyes Lucous and her husband: Justin Lucous of Tipp City; great grandchildren: Zakary, Levi, Lyndsey and Alaina Lucous of Tipp City and great great grandson: Isaac Lucous.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nona was preceded in death by son, James (Jim) Bennington, in 1988. Her sister, Susie Arndts, her brothers, Jim, Terry, Ebert and Jake Cruea had also preceded her.
Nona grew up in the community of Northridge; her faith was grown at the Northridge Wesleyan Methodist Church. She learned many songs at that church that she loved to sing throughout her life.
She retired from Inland Manufacturing, General Motors Company, after 30-plus years of service. Nona and Bruce enjoyed buying and selling antiques as a hobby, for many years. They were also active in the Tipp City American Legion. Nona enjoyed spending time with family, beloved pets, and her friends. Activities that she enjoyed: putting together puzzles; doing crosswords; and painting-by-number. Nona loved spending time in her kitchen making sweets, especially known for her cookies and fudge. Another talent that she had was the ability to play the piano 'by ear'.
A private graveside service took place in Maple Hill Cemetery in Tipp City, officiated by Chaplain Ric Johnson of Heartland Hospice. Heartland Hospice gave tremendous support to Nona and her family for the final year of her life. Memorial contributions may be made in Nona's memory to Heartland Hospice, 580 Lincoln Park Blvd, Kettering, OH 45429 or Humane Society of Greater Dayton, 1661 Nicholas Road, Dayton, OH 45417.
