Obituary

Nancy Lee Wherry Nancy Lee Wherry, 80, of Troy, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 2:25AM at Hospice of Dayton. She was born August 24, 1929 to George G. Jerry and Mary F. Gasiday in Convoy, Ohio. Nancy claimed to have caused the Wall Street crash! Nancy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harold and five children: Tom, Mark, Lisa, Chris and Jane; eleven grandchildren: Lucas, Bess, Marcus, Kaylin, Jacob, Aana, Allen, Jessica, Spencer, Shelby and Megan; three great-grandchildren: Braxton, Brooklyn and Logan; daughters/sons-in-law: Karen, Michelle, Craig and Greg. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, George and John G. Gasiday. She was a loving, patient, caring, selfless wife and mother who was a dedicated and active member of the Troy First United Methodist Church and previously the Vandalia United Methodist Church. Her activities included: church secretary, bereavement team, Women's Circle, World Hunger Bazaar co-chair to name but a few. She was a trusted friend to many with the ability to listen without judging and sharing of difficult and joyous times. She enjoyed the antiques trade and loved to travel with Harold across the country "on the hunt". The stories of these activities are endless and she cherished the close friendships she established. As well she was an active member of the Vandalia Historical Society, dedicating many hours to this organization. She enjoyed quilting probably more for the chance to talk and have fellowship with friends as for the end result, the quilt itself. An avid sports fan, at various times, of Aviators, Buckeyes, Bearcats, Reds, Chicago Bulls and Blue Devils. Last, but not least, could she cook and she sure had to with her bunch of "big time eaters," she would say Ha, Ha! to that. A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, September 18, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Troy, with Rev. Dr. James Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Hill Cemetery, Vandalia, Ohio. Friends may call from 4-7PM on Thursday at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. Memorial contributions may be made to Bradley's House of Hope. Friends may express condolences to the family through www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
