IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Morris
Scancarello
December 24, 1921 – August 3, 2011
Morris Scancarello Morris Scancarello, age 89, of Piqua, Ohio, formerly of Little Falls, New Jersey, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born on December 24, 1921 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to the late James and Jennie LaQuatra Scancarello. His beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Florence H. Scancarello, preceded him in death on June 26, 2011. "Moe" was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He served three and one-half years with the Medics division as a cook on a hospital train. He had experience working in his parent's bakery, but he received this assignment because of his feet. Combat boots were not readily available in size 15 ½ so they had to be specially made. By the time his boots arrived, the infantry had already shipped out. He always said his feet probably saved his life. He returned to New Jersey after the war and met the love of his life, Flo, on a blind date. Together they started a chocolate candy business, Mary Dunham Homemade Candies. Moe made all the candy and Flo managed the operation of the store. They retired in 1994 after 45 years in business. Moe was a devoted father to his son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Libby Scancarello of Troy, Ohio; and a cherished grandfather to Amanda, Emily and Zoey. Always happy and ready with a joke, Moe had a kind and gentle spirit and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Friends may call from 12-2 PM on Sunday, August 7, 2011 and from 1-2 PM on Monday, August 8, at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. A prayer service will be held Sunday at 3:30 PM at Garbry Ridge Assisted Living in Piqua. A graveside service will be at 2:30 PM on Monday with Veterans Honor Guard Services in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 15120 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60693.
