Obituary

Max A. Myers, age 68 of Troy, Ohio died Sunday, March 31, 2002 at the Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born of the late, Clark and Leannah Ferguson Myers. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mariana K.Mauk; daughters and son-in-law, Melinda K. and Charles Phelps of Troy and Margo A. Myers of New York City, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Donald and Randall Myers. Mr. Myers was a graduate of the Lima South High School in 1951 and Ohio Northern University in 1955. He served two years in the US Army in Seattle, WA where he coordinated medical services at a US Military missle unit. Following military service, Mr. Myers returned to Troy where he joined the M&R Drug Co. and became a partner in 1965 where they operated two pharmacy locations in Troy and card shops in Dayton, Tipp City, Bellefontaine and Troy. He retired from the pharmacy business in 1997 and continued operation of the card shops. On the civic level, Mr. Myers was an active member of the community including Past Chairman of the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce in 1979 and was chairman of several Chamber committees along with the founding chair of the Business-Economic Committee; Past President of the Troy Development Council; 1975 Campaign Chairman of the United Fund and President in 1978 and 1979; active member of the Downtown Troy Business Association and founding member of the Troy Main Street Association; Past Director of the Star Bank and former Distribution Committee Member of the Troy Foundation; former member of the Troy Jaycees and Troy Rotary Club. Mr Myers was recognized as the Distinguished Citizen of the year by the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce in 1980. Professionally, Mr. Myers was a past member of the Board of Directors and Past President with the Miami Valley Pharmaceutical Association. He had served as the youngest President of the Ohio State Pharmaceutical Association in 1970 and then named Chairman of the Board in 1971. Mr. Myers was recognized as the Retailer of the Year in 1964 by the Ohio Drug Travelers Association and remained active with the pharmaceutical associations through committee appointments. Mr. Myers life was dedicated to community service and concern for his community through his civic involvement and profession, however he did enjoy some personal interests. He enjoyed traveling extensively with his family and was widely recognized for his vast knowledge of fine wines. Memorial contributions may be made to the Troy Foundation.
