IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mattie M.
Hershey
December 20, 1908 – March 15, 2006
Mattie M. Hershey Age 97 Mattie M. Hershey, formerly of Troy, Ohio, died on March 15, 2006. While a resident of the Troy area, she was known in the community as owner of Hershey's Egg Farm on Fenner Road. She was also the church organist for many years for the Brethren in Christ Church in Pleasant Hill, Ohio. She was born on December 20, 1908, in Thomas, Oklahoma, to Samuel and Anna Lutz and grew up in Dallas Center, Iowa, just outside of DesMoines. She was the last remaining of the twelve children in her family. She graduated as valedictorian of her high school in Iowa and completed undergraduate study at Beulah College in Upland, California. In 1935, she married Clayton Hershey, a Kroger Company career employee and executive. After a period of service for the Milton S. Hershey Boys' School in Hershey, Pennsylvania, she and her husband established a small industrial livestock farm near Troy. She and her husband were staunchly supportive of each other's endeavors until his death in 1984. Mattie was a devoted Christian with a commitment to service in church and community. She was a passionate musician who trained professionally, practiced tirelessly in her home studio, and introduced musical instruments, especially the organ, to her church. She funded her musical pursuits by starting a small chicken business on the farm. That business became Hershey's Egg Farm which served the Troy Community and Miami County stores throughout the 60's and 70's. She is survived by four children and six grandchildren. Private family service and interment. Condolences may be expressed to the family through www.bairdfuneralhome.com
