Mary Jane Drake English of Troy slept away on Sunday, November 6, 2005, at the Upper Valley Medial Center, to rejoin her loved ones and friends who have gone before. She was born on January 20, 1917, to Harry A. and Virgil M. Sims Drake of Piqua. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer E. English, a sister, Phyllis Foster, brother, John E. Drake, an infant brother, and an infant great-granddaughter, Abigail. Mary Jane is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Rose Ann English, and a daughter and son-in-law, Merrily and Darrell Cornell, of Troy, Ohio, six grandchildren; Chris and Alicia Cornell, Todd and Brandy Cornell, Kevin Cornell, Mark and Vickie English, Karen and DeWayne Shurte, and Bruce and Ozlem English, thirteen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and a very special nephew, Keith Foster. Jane worked alongside her husband in the operation of the English Portrait Studio in Troy as receptionist, bookkeeper and primary portrait colorist. In these capacities she came in contact with virtually thousands of Troy and Tippecanoe High School Seniors and their parents between 1948 and 1977. Jane also worked with her husband and son in the production and sales of the English Trojan Photo Negative Electronic Retouching machines and accompanying supplies. During this time sales extended throughout the United States, Canada, England, Australia, and New Zealand. She accompanied her husband, a seasoned traveler, on trips into Central and South America to visit mission stations and sites such as Matchu Pitchu and the equator. Jane was a 1935 graduate of Piqua Central High School. She was a 55-year member of the First Baptist Church in Troy before that, the Baptist churches in Sidney and Piqua. During her active years she served her church in many capacities; she was a Sunday School Teacher, Adult Choir Member and the Director of The Children's Choir. She served in Operation Compassion, also active in Women's Mission Society at the Church. She was a member of Xi Epsilon Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Troy. She was also a member of Pleiades Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Sidney for nearly sixty years. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 11:00AM at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio with Pastor Dale Christian officiating. Burial will be in Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio. Friends may call on the family on Friday, November 11, 2005 from 6-8PM at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio There will be an Eastern Star memorial service held at the end of the visitation.
