Martha M. McDevitt

Martha "Martie" (Manville) McDevitt, 88, of Mount Vernon died at home on November 22, 2015.

Martie was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Mattoon, IL, to Newell and Martha (Phillips) Manville.  She was raised in the Midwest, graduating from Springfield High School in 1945.  Martie graduated from The Ohio State University in 1949, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.  She married Philip H. McDevitt and celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away in 2002. She is a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ of Mount Vernon and is a member of the Morgan Grange and the Homer Garden Club.

She is survived by her daughters Mary Beth (Charles) Doud of Mims, FL and Kathryn (John Purdy) Irick of Troy; six grandchildren: Christopher McDevitt, Erin (Ben) Contratto, David Irick, Emma (Austin) Redmon, Douglas and Ryan Doud; and three great grandchildren: David and Juliet Contratto and Eleanor Redmon.

Her son, David M. McDevitt, preceded her in death in 1977.

Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 200 N. Main St., Mt. Vernon, OH .
