Margaret Joan Hunter, age 99, of Troy, OH passed away on September 15, 2024 at Troy Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on May 6, 1925 in Zanesville, OH to the late Arnold Marshall and Gladys (Swain) Marshall Schofield.

Joan is survived by her granddaughter: Jetta (Scott) Massie of New Carlisle; great granddaughter: Ellie; great grandson: Reid; nieces: Lisa (Debbie) Shelley, Paula Greene, Carla (Eric) Pennington and many other family and friends that loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: John Hunter; son: Jay Alan Hunter; brother: Robert Schofield and sister: Patricia Ours.

Joan graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology the morning of December 17, 1948 and married her husband, John, that same day. They were married for 32 years until his passing in 1980. They welcomed their only child, Jay Hunter, on June 30, 1959. She was a longtime co-owner and operator of Jay's novelties on West Main Street in Troy along with her husband. She was an avid sports fan specifically for the Buckeyes and enjoyed bowling, gardening, and getting together with friends for monthly Bridge games.

Services will be held at 1:00PM on Monday September 23, 2024 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00AM – 1:00PM on Monday at the funeral home.
