Mareta Elizabeth Cuppy Headapohl, 92, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at Dorothy Love Retirement Home in Sidney, Ohio. Mareta, born on November 23, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was a devoted nurse, loving wife, cherished mother and grandmother, beloved sister, and a pillar of compassion and service in her community.

The daughter of Evelyn and John Cuppy, both deceased, Mareta's lifelong journey of dedication to others began early. After graduating from Peabody High School in 1950, she pursued her passion for nursing at Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1954. Mareta went on to earn her Bachelor's in Education from St. Joseph College.

Nursing and service to others formed the foundation of Mareta's life. She volunteered for the American Red Cross for an exceptional 80 years, consistently updating her nursing license until her last days. Mareta was an inspiring educator, teaching Red Cross first aid, safety, and CPR classes, and guiding countless students in multiple disciplines, including Nurse Aide and LPN courses. Instrumental in establishing the LPN program at Upper Valley, Mareta made an indelible mark on the region's healthcare community.

Her professional journey included many years of dedicated service with Partners in Hope and Dorothy Love, where she also served on the board. Mareta was an active member of the Eastern Star and First Presbyterian Church of Troy, Ohio reflecting her love for fellowship and faith.

Mareta's life was filled with joy outside her vocation. She loved traveling and dancing with her favorite partner, her late husband John Headapohl. She also loved sewing many gifts and Halloween costumes - creating cherished memories with family and friends along the way. Mareta's legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to nursing lives on in all those she touched.

She is survived by her loving children: Hermann (Julie) Kaebnick, Mark (Mary) Kaebnick, Jon Kaebnick, Ellen (Denny) Donnelly, Jack (Kathy) Headapohl, and Dan (Mary) Headapohl; her brother, Charles Cuppy; thirteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren and countless friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Mareta's remarkable life will be held on August 23, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church in Troy. Visitation will be from 10-11 with a memorial service to follow. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Mareta's many friends for their love and support throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross in honor of Mareta's legacy of lifelong service.
