Luther B. Dunfee, 80, of Troy, Ohio, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at 3:33am at Koester Pavilion, Troy, Ohio. He was born on October 5, 1925 in Athens, Ohio to the late Herman Shotwell and Evelyn Huggins Dunfee.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan T. Kern Dunfee; two children, son & daughter-in-law; David & Linda Dunfee of Troy, OH; daughter & son-in-law; Cindi & Dick Kopus of DeGraff, OH; brother & sister-in-law; Ray & Elizabeth Dunfee of Athens, OH; four grandchildren, Brian; Joshua; Jarrett and Tammy; four great-grandchildren, Kayla; Kelsey; Kennedy; and Audrey.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Troy; US Navy Air Force from 1942-1946 stationed in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier Makin Island with VC41 Squadron; Kiwanis Club of Troy; Fraternal Order of Police; and Troy Fish and Game. He received his B.S. from Citadel, Charleston, SC, majored in Commerce, still holding longest kickoff and punt return record at The Citadel; M.S. from Michigan State, majored in Police Administration. He retired Staff Lieutenant from Ohio Highway Patrol after 26 years; retired as Miami County Sheriff after serving from 1980-1988. His hobbies include all sports; golfing; football; and playing cards. He was very active and competitive in Pistol Shooting through the Ohio State Patrol from which he received many awards including the Governors Top 20 and the National Retired Pistol Shooter Champion in 1978.

Services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2005 at 11:00am at the First United Methodist Church, 110 W. Franklin Street, Troy, Ohio with the Rev. Dr. James C. Wilson II officiating. Burial will follow at Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Ohio. Friends may call on the family, Thursday, October 13, 2005 from 4-8pm at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio.
