Lois Jean DeWeese Matthews, 76, of Troy, died unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, June 7, 2000.
She was born October 5, 1923 in Troy to George and Florence Brown DeWeese.
Mrs. Matthews was prededed in death by her parents; her husband, John B. Matthews in 1970; one son, Michael Matthews, in February 2000; one sister, Betty Neikirk, and one brother, Coleman DeWeese.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and Gary Williams of Piqua; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven S. and Carol Matthews of Piqua; one daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Matthews; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Quintella Johnston of Troy and Peg and Don Trostle of Troy; one brother-in-law, Carl Neikirk of Troy; and one sister-in-law, Liz DeWeese of Troy.
She also is survived by 11 grandchildren; Matthew Williams, Joshua Williams, Jacob Williams, Joy Williams, Jami Williams, David Matthews, Philip Matthews, Gareth Matthews, Thomas Matthews, William Matthews and Erika Matthews.
Mrs. Matthews was a 1941 graduate of Troy High School and was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Troy.
She retired in 1997 as the assistant to the pastor at First United Church of Christ in Troy. She had previously been employed at Shipman, Utrecht, and Dixon for many years.
Services will be conducted Monday, June 12, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ in Troy by the Rev. Allen Marheine and the Rev. Ron Garner. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the First United Church of Christ from 2-6 p.m. Sunday. Contributions may be made to the First United Church of Christ.
