Lois Elizabeth Vandeveer Markley Lois Elizabeth Vandeveer Markley of Casstown, Ohio died on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Covington Care Center, Covington, Ohio. She was born on April 19, 1925 to the late Carrie Young and Llewellyn Vandeveer. Lois grew up in Elizabeth Township with her parents and older sister, Eva, who preceded her in death. Soon after graduating from Elizabeth High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Richard Markley. Richard Markley died in 1991 after the couple had been married for 44 years. Lois was a faithful and longtime member of the Casstown United Methodist Church and Casstown United Methodist Women's Society. Her faith in God and love for her family was the central theme in her life. Lois Markley was a wonderful homemaker, caring wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a source of strength and kindness to her children, grandchildren and the many lives she touched as she walked each day with the Lord. Lois was known for her loving heart, wonderful sense of humor and generosity. She left this life as she lived it-with courage and grace. All who knew her will keenly feel her loss. In addition to her husband, Raymond Richard Markley, Lois was preceded in death by two daughters, Cynthia "Cindy" Markley Gilliam and Linda Markley and an infant son, Lynn. Lois Vandeveer Markley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Ric" and Phyllis Markley of Covington, Ohio; her daughter, Sue Markley Buckalew of Cumming, Georgia; her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Scott Barhorst of Sidney, Ohio. Survivors also include nine grandchildren: David Markley, Daniel Markley, Leighanne Markley, Jennifer Dumont, Justin Buckalew, Derek Gilliam, Carrie Gilliam, Michael Lauber and Amanda Lauber; and six great-grandchildren: Paolo Markley, Douglas Dumont, Ellie Dumont, Reese Dumont, Tyler Gilliam and Kelsie Gilliam. A funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with interment to follow at Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Ohio. Rev. David Ramming will officiate. Friends may call from 4-8PM on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Casstown United Methodist Church, 102 Center Street, Casstown, Ohio 45312 or the Donor's Choice of Charity.
