Obituary

L. Harold Roeth, 86, of Troy, Ohio died on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the Piqua Manor Nursing Center in Piqua, Ohio. He was born on July 28, 1918 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Adam and Edith Roeth. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marjorie Frantz; son and daughter-in-law, Brian & Angela Roeth of Pleasant Hill, OH; step-son and daughter-n-law, Craig & Gina Long of North Carolina. Also survived by son, Philip of Cincinnati; daughter, Barbara of Arizona and grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Roeth; Chelsea, Brittany and Courtney Long. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ted. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Troy; Franklin Lodge #14F&AM and American Legion Post #43. He served in the US Army in Europe during WWII and also attended the Army War College. He attended business college in Springfield prior to his military service and then later studied at The Ohio State University. He retired in 1982 from Hobart Corporation as a purchasing agent, prior to his employment in Troy, he worked in the same capacity with other companies. After retirement, he voluntarily taught English Classes to Japanese and Vietnams Immigrants throught the J.V.S. Harold's passion in life was music from performing in big bands, military bands; later taking up the organ and then supporting his grandchildren in their music interests. Funeral Services will be held at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 11:00AM with the Rev. Ed Ellis officiating the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio with military honor guard services. Masonic Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday. Friends may call at Baird Funeral Home, Troy from 10:00 -11:00am on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Newton Band Boosters or charity of choice.
