Karla J. Kennedy, age 65, of Troy, OH passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Mayfair Village Nursing Care Center, Columbus, OH. She was born on November 19, 1949 in Portland, OR to the late Chester and Hildur (Larsen) Schaber.
Karla is survived by her husband of 41 years: Thomas H. Kennedy; her daughters and son-in-law: Ashley P. Kennedy and fiance', Blair Symes of Chicago, IL and Jamie L. and Adam Burchfield of Xenia, OH; grandsons: Robert Harper Burchfield and Hunter Sams Burchfield; brother and sister-in-law: Keith and Janet Schaber of Portland, OR; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Karla was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Jane H. and Joseph W. Kennedy Jr. and sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Elizabeth P. and Joseph W. Kennedy III.
Karla was a former member of the First United Methodist Church, Troy and formerly served as an adult advisor for the youth group's mission trips and a Senior High and Kindergarten Sunday school teacher. She was a current member of the Grove City United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Emmaus community. Karla was an avid crafter and she brought joy to others' lives with her greeting cards. She loved spending time flower gardening, cooking and entertaining, and enjoying the company of her cats.
Karla was formerly a dental assistant and a school aide. In Troy, she had been employed with Troll Book Fairs and the Tom Walters Allstate Insurance Agency. She served as an Ohio-licensed insurance agent in Troy and Grove City. Along with her family she owned and operated The Cakery in Troy and Riverside.
Memorial Service will be held at 4:00PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, Troy, OH with the Pastor Bob Lybarger officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the First Place Christian Center following the service. A private interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, OH.
