''Dan'' Johnson

Joseph D. Johnson ''Dan'', 77, of Troy died Friday, June 22. Mr. Johnson was born in Tipp City, on November 24, 1923, to the late Chauncey and Stella Jensen Johnson. He graduated from Tipp City High School in 1941. Mr. Johnson entered the United States Navy V-5 Aviation Cadet Program in 1942 and was commisioned Ensign, Naval Aviator in 1944. He served active duty until 1945 and retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1974 at the rank of Commander. Mr. Johnson owned and operated C.N. Johnson & Sons Gerneral Contracting Company. Later he owned and operated his locksmith business, Johnson Custom Services, from which he retired in 1997. He served as president of the Miami Valley Locksmith Association. Mr. Johnson was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy where he was an ordained elder, a deacon, and servied as trustee. He was a Life member of the Frank E. Robinson post of the American Lefion in Tipp City and of the Sertoma Club, for which he served as president. Mr. Johnson was elected and served on Troy City Council in the 1960's. He was a member of the Ohio Highway Patrol Auxiliary since 1949. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cassa Benham Johnson, and four children and one son-in-law, Jane, Joe, and Jeff of Troy, and Jill Bob Bonnici of Cincinnati. He is survived by six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lindsey, Stefanie, Jennifer, Chauncey, and Cindy. He is also survived by one brother, Jack Johnson Mildred of Troy, and one sister, Mrs. Janet Johnson, of Alamorgordo, NM and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce of Seattle, and David. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church building fund 20 S. Walnut St., Troy, Ohio 45373 or to the Miami Valley Alzheimer's Association 3797 Summit Glen Dr., Suite G100, Dayton, OH 45449. Visitation will be at Baird Funeral Home on Monday from 3:00PM to 8:00PM. Funeral Services will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Troy 20 S. Walnut St. on Tuesday, June 26 at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio.
