Obituary

John Charles Mauldin, age 83, of Winchester, Indiana passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 peacefully in his sleep at a small hospital in Randolph county after several days there of kidney failure amongst other complications recently. He was born January 25, 1942 in Geneva, Alabama to Howard Columbus Mauldin and Onyx Blair Mauldin.

John is survived by his partner of the last 10 years, Bonnie Shaneyfelt of Winchester, Indiana, his daughter, Diane Stephens of Dayton, Ohio, sons, Kevin Mauldin of Reno, Nevada and Stephen Mauldin of Ft Wayne, Indiana.  In-laws, Richard and Julie Martin of Pickerington, Ned and Connie Martin of Grove City and Bonnie and Pat Thompson of Grove City;  Grandchildren, Tiffany, Chelsea, and Payton; Great-grandchildren, Andrew, Lahyla, and Hannah;  Nephews, Rex, Kristoffer, Craig, Sean, Michael, and Nathan; and nieces, Rennah, Amanda and Anna.

John was preceded in death by his parents. Brother, Dan Carroll. Sisters, Patricia and Syrtheria.  Nephews, Danny, Mike and Kenny. Niece, Susan. Grandsons, Jeremey and Victor. Granddaughter, Allisha.

John was a former member of the West Park Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio, the First Baptist Church in Troy and most recently the Freedom Life Church in Winchester. John's mother moved him and his youngest sister to Columbus, Ohio when he was only 5 years old. He would go back to Alabama and Florida to visit relatives and spent a couple summers with his brother and his family to help him get caught up in school as his sister-in-law, Eleanor and her mother were both school teachers. The last year or so in high school John met Kay and their senior year on March 2, 1961 they skipped school to make the two hour drive to get married in Kentucky.  John had a successful 29 year sales career in youth fundraising which he enjoyed. It allowed him and Kay to travel around the country and international trips as well. John loved fishing and hunting. He would go on fishing trips often with family and friends. His favorite fishing trips were likely with his good friends Steve Kershner, Phil Julian, and first cousin, George Mauldin and brother-in-law, Pat Thompson. He talked about those trips often. John also liked driving and buying cars and other toys. At least 20 years ago it was documented that he had purchased over 30 cars. The number was probably closer to 52 cars up to this year as John and Kay are now likely reunited after their 52 years of marriage cruising now in one of their favorite cars in one of their old favorite spots with all their family and friends.

Remembrance will be held Thursday, June 26, 2025 beginning at 11:00AM with a small service at 12:00PM at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio.
