Obituary

John A. "Sparrow" Gretzinger John A. "Sparrow" Gretzinger, age 61, of Christiansburg, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010 at his sister's residence in Troy, Ohio. He was born on August 7, 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Ralph E. and Martha Jennings Gretzinger. His wife, Jeanette Lyons Gretzinger of Christiansburg, survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two stepsons: Jeremy Stanley and Jason Stanley both of Stanley, Virginia; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Mary and Doug Clevenger of Troy, Ohio and Nancy K. Gretzinger of Gilbert, Arizona; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph E. Gretzinger, III and Jewel Gretzinger of Plano, Texas; and nieces and nephews: JC and Laura Clevenger of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, Katie and Jim Crotty of Chicago, Illinois, Ned and Whitney Gretzinger of Longview, Texas, Sarah Gretzinger of Dallas, Texas and Meg Gretzinger of Gilbert, Arizona. He was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1967; he attended Georgia Tech and graduated from Ohio University. Jack was an avid golfer and sports fan. He was a former councilman for the Village of Christiansburg and a former Kentucky Colonel. He worked for the US Census Bureau and Remedy Inc., Covington, Ohio. Private family services will be held with interment in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio. Friends may gather for a celebration of the life of "Sparrow" from 5-8PM on Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy.
