John R. Culbertson of Troy, Ohio died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his residence. He was born May 29, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Raymond and Kathryn Russell Culbertson. He will be missed by his wife of 42 years, Beth and his sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Kate Culbertson of Bellbrook, Ohio and Jack and Renee Culbertson of Miamisburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Colin, Jack, Will, Lauren, and Austin; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Peggy Culbertson of Oklahoma, Larry and Carol Culbertson of New Mexico, Mikel and Sandra Culbertson of South Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Dan Triplett of Sunbury, Ohio; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Terrie Iams of Troy, Ohio; uncle and aunt, Lowell and Gladys McGowan of Bryan, Ohio; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. John was a graduate of The Ohio State University; Miami University of Ohio; and a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar at the University of Dayton. He retired from the Troy Schools after over 30 years as a high school biology teacher. He also enjoyed his post-retirement employment at Home Depot in Piqua, Ohio. He was a member of the Ohio and National Education Associations. A former board member of the Miami County Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Miami East Board of Education. He was a former scout leader with Troop #82, Troy and cub master with Pack #50, Casstown. Funeral service will be held 3:00PM Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio with the Rev. David Ramming officiating. Interment will follow in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 4-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Miami East Education Foundation or Hospice of Miami County. Condolences may be expressed to the family through www.bairdfuneralhome.com
