Obituary

John S. Bird, age 78 of Troy, Ohio died Friday, June 18, 2004 at the Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. Born of the late, John C. Bird and Mary S.Jackson Bird in Wembley, England. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eileen F. O'Neill Bird; sons and daughter-in-law, John S. Bird Jr.; David and Jeannette Bird; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Michael Cox; grandchildren, Morgan; David; Anna; Michael; Katie; Rachel; Matthew and Sean and great-granddaughter, Alexis. A member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church; Troy Kiwanis Club; Past President of the Troy Museum of History; Troy Historical Society; Troy Elks Lodge #833; American Legion Post #43 and the Miami County Review Board. He was among the first members of Council of Forest Park, Cincinnati and a former board member with the Aullwood Audubon Nature Preserve, Dayton. A WWII US Veteran of the G. Company 341st Infantry Regiment, 86th Division Blackhawk, having served in General Patton's Army and liberator at Dachau Concentration Camp and continued his service in the Pacific Theatre until after the war. A graduate of Ridley College, St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada and Princeton University. He was a retired sales manager at Hobart Brothers Company, Troy and former superintendent of the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology. He will be remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a man who showed love and great interest in his church, public service, reading, golf and all other sports. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and Brukner Nature Center.
