JoAnne Matthews Williams 1948-2007 JoAnne was born on January 31, 1948 in Troy, Ohio. She passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2007, after a heroic battle with breast cancer. JoAnne is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lois Matthews, as well as her brother, Michael Matthews. She is survived by a loving husband of 36 years, Gary D. Williams, and her five children, Matthew Ginger of Troy, Josh Laticia of Cincinnati, Jacob Sara of Troy, Joy Enoch Oliveros of Toledo, and Jami fiance, Steve Smith of Sidney. She is the proud grandmother of Logan, Connor, and Justin Williams, Gabriel Oliveros, and Eleanor Williams. She is also survived by her brother Steven Carol Matthews of Piqua. JoAnne was a 1966 graduate of Troy High School, attended Miami-Jacobs College in Dayton, and performed with one of the national casts of "Up With People". She was the dedicated Office Manager of the Miami County YMCA- Robinson Branch. One of her greatest joys there was her opportunity to participate and support the YMCA Scholarship Program. JoAnne was a nine-year breast cancer survivor and an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society, participating annually in the Relay for Life. JoAnne and her husband, Gary met in Riverside, California and were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 20, 1971. They raised their five children in Troy, Ohio, Bloomington, Indiana, and Piqua, Ohio. They were sealed together in the Washington D.C. Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 31, 1981. JoAnne's greatest sense of joy and pride came from her children and grandchildren to whom she was known as Grandma Jo. Her last days were spent at home surrounded by the love and support of her family and dear friends. She will be remembered as an intelligent, funny, witty and caring person who always looked for ways to help and uplift everyone around her. JoAnne had a special warmth about her that it made her the wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend that she was. She will be loved and missed always. Funeral Services will be at 1:00PM Friday February 23, 2007 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH with the Bishop Del Cabe officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, OH.
