Jerry D. Chaney, 83, of Troy, Ohio went home to be with the Lord at 6:37 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio surrounded by his family. He was born October 1, 1933 in Troy, Ohio to the late Charles and Minnie (Hansford) Chaney. On October 10, 1953, he married Wanda Plantz Chaney, who survives.

He is survived by a son, Rick D. Chaney of Troy, Ohio and a daughter, Tammy L. Hensley of Troy, Ohio as well as 3 grandchildren, Jeri Rikaela Hensley, Stacy Chaney Martin, Kelly Chaney Debrosse; 5 great grandchildren, Brittan Martin, Caleb Martin, Keringten Martin, Kiaya Debrosse, Olivia Grace Debrosse and one great great grandchild, Colton Hoelscher. He was one of 17 children and is survived by 3 sisters, Mary-Ellen Durst of Tipp City, Sara Scherer, Jean Avey and one brother, Billy M. Chaney, all three of Troy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 5 sisters. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War.  In 1973, he started Chaney and Son, Inc., where he retired as owner. He was a member of Local 22 Brick Masons, Dayton, OH and a member of First Baptist Church in Troy, Ohio.

His favorite pastimes were doing his word search books and collecting trains and coins. He will be remembered for his kind heart, loving ways and a wonderful smile and laughter.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy with Revs. Dale Christian and Doug Magin officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Troy with full military honors.  Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
