Janet Haworth Buchan, 65, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio following a brief illness. Mrs. Buchan is survived by her sons, Robert, John and David as well as daughters-in-law, eleven grandchildren and precious loving friends and neighbors. She was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend throughout her life. She was Valedictorian of her Troy High School senior class. She attended the Music Conservatory at Oberlin Collelge in piano performance. She attended The Ohio State University where she was a member of the homecoming court and graduated with a BS Ed. Summa cum laude. She later received the Masters degree in Education from the University of Dayton. Mrs. Buchan was an elementary school teacher at Kyle Elementary school in Troy for almost 20 years and she dearly loved her students, fellow teachers and friends at Kyle. Teaching was Jan's gift and her passion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Russel Haworth, as well as her husband, Dr. Robert Buchan. Service will be held at 11:00am Friday, June 7, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church, 110 W. Franklin Street, Troy with the Rev. Theron Smith and Rev. James C. Wilson II officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio. Friends may call from 4-8pm Wednesday and 4-8pm Thursday at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio.
