Obituary

Rev. James W. Tyler, 81, of Belcamp, Maryland, and formerly of Huber Heights, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January, 20, 2004 at the Lorien Nursing Home in Belcamp, Maryland. He was born on April 7, 1922 in Covington, Ohio to the late Frank and Mabel Minnich Tyler. He is survived by his wife of more than 61 year, O. Faye Hart Tyler. Also surviving are his 3 children; Duane T. ''Toby'' and Doris Tyler of Sidney, Ohio; Stephen D. and Anne Tyler of Belcamp, Maryland; and Joanne and Michael Shaffer of Vandalia, Ohio. One sister, Joyce Bayshore of Orange County, California also survives. Mr. Tyler also has 6 grandchildren; Dena, Delane, Marijke, Monika, Toban and Tabatha. Also 5 great-grandchildren; Johnathan, Hannah, Grace, Sarah and Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 1 sister, and 1 great-grandchild. Mr. Tyler served as a minister for the Sidney Church of the Brethren, while there, he was a major key to the commuinity as he quietly aided in ending a major strike in the 60's; built a new church building, and served as a missionary to Mexico. He was Minister of the Emmanuel Church of the Brethren; was a key role in starting kindergarten for the Wayne School district; established the first Girls softball program for Huber Heights; established and started FISH program in Huber Heights; established the MOM and TOT's program in Annville, PA. He was a wonderful husband, father, preacher, missionary and community activist, making lives better for so many by listening and then putting caring into action. It was simply his way of life, be it helping settle a strike, building a new church or setting up the Brethren Disaster Relief effort after the Xenia tornado. He would pray for you, but he also would roll up his sleeves and work with you shoulder to shoulder. He graduated from Manchester College and Bethany Seminary. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, with the Rev. Sheila Shumaker officiating. Contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, SW Region Inc., 325 N. Third Street, Fairborn, Ohio 45324-4959.
