Obituary

James Fulmer Speer, 85, of Troy, Ohio died on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at his residence. He was born on March 5, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late James K. and Alice Fulmer Speer. He is survived by two children, Mary Speer of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Virginia Speer King and the Rev. Gerald G. King of Springfield, Illinois; tow sisters, Harriet Jewell of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Shirley Sandy of Sierra Vista, Arizona; sister-in-law and brother-in-law; John & Jane DeWalt of Upper Saint Clair, Pennsylvania; and one step-grandson, Matthew James King of Springfield, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife and sisters, Alice Rich and Marjorie Speer. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving as Chief Petty Officer at the time of separation; Active member of First United Methodist Church, Troy; Scout Master for 20 years with the Boy Scouts, Troop 82, and continued to volunteer with the Miami Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America; Member of The Sertoma Club of Troy, he was the recipient of the Troy Jaycees Community Service Award in 1976. Personal interest included painting, ailing and tennis. He was a graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He retired as Vice President and General Manage in 1984 from the Ohio Aviation Company, Vandalia, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 10:30am at the First United Methodist Church, Troy, Ohio with the Rev. Dr. James C. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio. Friends may call on the family, Monday, August 7, 2006 from 5-8PM at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio. Contributions may be made to the Miami Valley Council of the Boys Scouts of America, 4999 Northcutt Place, Box 13057, Dayton, Ohio 45413. The family extends deepest appreciation to Dale Fisher, Jim's special friends, Arlene Davenport and the caregivers of Midwest Extended Care, American Nursing Care, and Comfort Keepers for their devotion.
