JAMES D. SAILOR SPRINGFIELD - James D. Sailor, 90, passed away on January 8, 2007, at the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield, where he had been a resident for the past ten years. Prior to that he had resided in Sidney, Piqua, and Troy. Jim was born to George R. and Florence P. Gross Sailor on August 31, 1916, in Logan County. He was a 1934 graduate of Perry Twp. High School. He attended General Motors Institute for mechanic training. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceeded in death by his wife Helen Thomas, a grandson and a great-great grandson. He is survived by his brother, Ned Sailor of Port Jefferson, his daughters and sons-in-law Rose Ann and John English of Troy and Carol and Ted Eshleman of Union, four grandchildren and their spouses, eleven great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. Jim worked at several foundries in Sidney during and following WWII and as a farmer in Shelby County. He owned and operated a Sinclair service station in Piqua and a Minneapolis-Moline dealership in Maplewood. He was employed by Dunson Supply Co., Mader Motor Mart, and NAPA Auto Parts. Since becoming a resident of the Ohio Masonic Home, Jim kept busy in the wood shop repairing furniture for the Home as well as for individuals and making items for sale in the gift shop. He was proud of the plaque that he received for logging well over 1000 volunteer hours working with his hands. Jim was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge #14; Franklin Chapter, RAM; Franklin Council, R and SM; and Coleman Commandery, KT of Troy and Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton. He was also a 30-year member of Ohio Priory, Knights of the York Cross of Honor, having served as presiding officer in Lodge, Chapter, Council and Commandery, He was a member of Grotto. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with the Rev. Joseph Royer officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Friends may call Wednesday, January 10, 2007 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Home Endowment Fund.
