March 4, 1931 – February 13, 2014
James L. Palsgrove, age 82, of Troy, OH, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Troy Care Center, Troy. He was born on March 4, 1931 in Troy to the late Ernest and Fairy (Sargent) Palsgrove. On February 6, 1954 in Troy, he married Shirley Drake. She survives.
Jim is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Marcy and Tony Younce of Troy; one son and daughter-in-law: Thomas L. and Rebecca Palsgrove of Troy; three grandsons: Mark Younce, Brian Younce and Chad Palsgrove; seven great grandchildren: Abby, Natalie, Breanne, Madison, Emma, Isaiah and Anna; step grandchildren: Jacy, Jena, Haley and Maddie; and one brother: Gene Palsgrove of California. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by one brother: Ivan Palsgrove.
Jim proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Corporal. He was also a member of Korean War Veterans #108, Worldwide Wildlife, National Wildlife, Brukner Nature Center, Environmental Defense Fund and Nature Conservancy. Jim was a member of Troy Baptist Temple. He was a bird watcher, enjoyed fishing and was an active volunteer to Dayton VA, delivering food and visiting veterans. Jim also loved walking in the outdoors. He graduated from Troy High School in 1949. Jim was an attendant at Baird Funeral Home from December 1993 until the present. He was also employed by the B & O-Chessie-CSX Railroad for 43 years as a carman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Mike Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy with full military honors provided by the Veteran's Honor Guard. Friends may call from 5-8 PM on Monday at the funeral home with special services by The Korean War Veterans.
