JAMES E. HURST James E. Hurst, age 91, of Troy, Ohio passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the SpringMeade Healthcare Center, Tipp City, OH. He was born in June 1916 in Indiana. He is survived by his loving family and friends, especially his son, Jim Hurst of Castro Valley, CA. Jim and his late wife, Edith, were married in 1939 in Indiana. They moved to Troy, Ohio in 1953. The next year they built the B-K Root Beer Stand on 25-A which they continued to own and operate until the mid-1970's. During that same period, while raising their family, they also built, owned and operated two car washes and a radiator repair shop in Troy. Jim and Edith especially enjoyed the Crystal Ballroom in Versailles. Once the music started, they rarely left the dance floor. He had many interests. Jim was a member of the Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shrine Temple and The Troy Fish and Game. A champion at both horse shoe pitching and trap shooting, his was a familiar face at local tournaments until fairly recently. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and in his earlier years, raising Brittany Spaniels. Services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-11:00 AM Tuesday. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 PM Tuesday at the M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne, IN.
