Holter
August 2, 1938 – September 2, 2022
James E. Holter, age 84, of Troy, OH passed away on September 2, 2022 at the Ohio's Hospice of Miami County in Troy. He was born on August 2, 1938 in St. Clairsville, OH to the late James W. and Margaret L. (Donley) Holter.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lou Ann (Durliat) Holter, whom he married on February 10, 1962 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Custar, OH. Also survived by his three sons: Alan J. Holter, Brian T. (Lesley) Holter and Mike J. Holter all of Troy and grandchildren: Alex, Alyse, Amanda, Bryce and Marissa and cousins: Nealy Sarver and Linda (Myron) Guiler. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his grandson: AJ Holter.
Jim was a graduate of Cygnet High School where he served as Class President, Valedictorian and played sports. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was in the Army ROTC and served in the Reserves for eight years.
Jim was a commercial real estate appraiser and worked for Cole, Layer- Trumble Co, Sabre Systems & Services and Property Evaluation Service before retiring. He traveled many states over his years of employment. After retirement, he and wife, Lou continued to travel in the United States and out of the country several times. Finally, settling for the last 12 winters in The Villages of Florida.
He was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Troy and a member of the Facility Committee and a server for funeral masses. He was also a member of the Troy Country Club.
Jim loved his wife, sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and favorite times spent with grandchildren and their sports and all other activities. Jim coached little league baseball many years when his sons were younger. He enjoyed cooking, reading thousands of books, fishing and golfing. Jim didn't love golf as much as his wife, Lou but they enjoyed golfing together in Florida. Jim's favorite thing was doing yard work. He enjoyed classic cars.
Jim was a great husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren were his joy and was so glad they lived close. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Troy with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman officiating. Interment will take place at a later time in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Custar, OH. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH.
