Atha, James Richard Dick- James Richard "Dick" Atha, age 79, Daytona Beach, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday morning, December 19, 2008 at the Terrace of Daytona Beach. He was born March 10, 1929 to the late Albert and Bertha Atha in Ada, Ohio. Mr. Atha lived in Casstown, Ohio for 30 years, moved to Brandt, Ohio in 1989 and then retired to Daytona Beach. He was a proud member of the Milestone Club and retired from Hobart Brothers Company after 40 years of dedicated service. He was affiliated with the Casstown-Brandt Evangelical and Holy Cross Lutheran Church's and had formerly been a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Moose Lodge, Miami County Fish and Game, and served as Commissioner for Boy Scout Troop #544. Mr. Atha was instrumental in starting the Lostcreek Baseball Association and served as president of the league but his greatest love was coaching the children and making sure "nobody" was left out. Dick will be remembered for his dedication to family, love of sports, wacky sense of humor and pride for his state and country. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley; a son, Richard Sue Fine Atha, Wasilla, AK; two daughters, Patty Moore, Daytona Beach and Becky Thomas Lewis, Casstown, OH; two sisters, Catherine George Helling, San Diego, CA, Mary the late Earl Lomen, Lima, OH; grandchildren, Dustin Keri Moore and Joshua Lewis, Mountain Home, ID, Jordan Lewis, Casstown, OH, and Austin Atha, Daytona Beach; great grandchildren, Nikolas and Kaydence Moore and Hayden and Hunter Richards. Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM Saturday December 27, 2008 at the LostCreek United Church of Christ, 7007 Troy-Urbana Rd. Casstown, OH. Pastor Jason Egbert officiating. Family will receive friends from NOON until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association of Volusia County, 140 S. Beach Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32114 or Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32119. Condolences can be sent to the family through www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
