Ivan W. Plantz Sr. Ivan W. Plantz Sr., age 88, of Troy, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Harborside Health Care Center, Troy. He was born on January 27, 1920, in Marion, Ohio, to the late Henry H. and Elsie E. Martin Plantz. His wife of 30 years, Ruth K. Lovejoy Plantz, survives. He is also survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Ivan Wayne Jr. and Patty Plantz of Santa Claus, Indiana, John L. and Donna Plantz of Henderson, Kentucky and Marlan David and Janet Plantz of Troy; daughters and son-in-law: Marilyn R. Salyers of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Vivian R. and Rick Hare of Henderson, Kentucky; stepsons and daughter-in-law: Leonard R. Mullins, Jerry Lee and Debbie Mullins and Randall Keith Mullins all of Troy; brothers: Harold and Paul Plantz both of Pt. Pleasant, W. Virginia; sisters: Geraldine Bowen of Troy and Dolly Stanley of Pt. Pleasant, W. Virginia; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Plantz was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert Robert and Arthur Plantz, and his first wife, Dorothy Crawford Plantz. He had been a resident of Troy since 1939 and was a Sunday School superintendant, a trustee, an usher and a deacon at the various churches he attended. He was a member of Troy Freewill Baptist Church and the Troy Sr. Citizens. He was a US Army WWII Veteran as well as an avid fisherman. He was a member of the silver sneakers at the Robinson Branch YMCA. He loved to garden and loved reading his Bible and being a devoted Christian. Mr. Plantz was a carpenter with Local 1807. He retired in 1981. He also worked with Local 104, Dayton and 712, Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM Monday, June 9, 2008, at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with Rev. Ray Horton officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Friends may call from 4-8PM Sunday at the funeral home.
