Irene Carroll Huyer Irene Carroll Huyer, age 90, of Troy, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at her residence. She was born on August 21, 1920 to the late Jesse and Maude Maddix Carroll in Carter County, Kentucky. Irene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol Joy and Dan Jackson of New Lebanon, Ohio; three grandchildren: Brady Sena Wilson of Troy, Bridget Randy Anderson of Piqua, Ohio and Robin Wilson of Huber Heights, Ohio; five great-grandchildren: Hannah and Connor Wilson, Andrew and Jacob Anderson and Joshua Carson; and ten nieces and nephews In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, with whom she shared 41 years of marriage. Fred passed away in 1985. Also preceding her in death are her brothers and sisters: Lewis Carroll of Shafter, California, Arnold Carroll of Phoenix, Arizona, Lowell Carroll of Portsmouth, Ohio, Ruby Phillips of Troy, Ohio and Goldie Gearhart of McAllen, Texas. Irene graduated from Olive Hill High School Olive Hill, KY and came to Tipp City in 1943 where she met her husband, Fred. They soon married and moved to Portland, Oregon to live. A death in the family brought them back to Ohio where they settled down. Carol was their only child. Irene worked in the J.C. Penney store in downtown Troy for many years during the 1950's. She was also active as a Pink Lady volunteer at Detmer Hospital for several years. Retirement brought Irene and Fred traveling adventures, sightseeing America and visiting family throughout. Irene loved her grandchildren and spent years tending to them. She loved nothing more than entertaining and having her brothers and sisters come home for visits. She and her sister Ruby were members of the Friendship Group which consisted of 27 friends from around the area. Irene loved watching and going to see the Cincinnati Reds with the Senior Citizens. The past two years of her life, she spent living with Brady and Sena and their children and was so happy to be with them. Her three caregivers were totally committed to her and she was so appreciative of the wonderful care and comfort they gave her. Thanks to Nancy Stockert, Bonnie Eldridge and Jackie Seigel for their loving touch. Irene also wanted to thank all of the wonderful people of Hospice of Miami County who took such wonderful care of her these past several months. Visitation will be from 11:00AM-1:00PM on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Baird Funeral Home, 555 N. Market Street, Troy, Ohio 45373. Visitation will be followed by funeral services at 1:00PM at the funeral home with Rev. Shelton officiating. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Troy.
