Irene J. "Renie" Crouse Matthews, age 96, formerly of Troy, OH passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the O'Neill Healthcare in Lakewood, OH. Irene was born on June 28, 1918 in Dayton, OH to the late Walter C. and Iva Maude (Hyre) Crouse. She was married to Dean Bryant Matthews on April 19, 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1993. Irene is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Dean B. Jr. and Deborah Sarber Matthews of Troy and Bruce A. and Deborah Matthews of Cleveland; sister-in-law: Martha Crouse of Troy; eight grandchildren: Melissa, Christine, James, Courtney, Rachel, Jocelyn, Troy, and Chelsea; and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her brother, Walter L. (Roy) Crouse and sister, Marilyn I. Doughty. Irene was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Troy where she was a member of Class 13 and former Deaconess with the church. She was also a member of the ABC Mother's Club; Miami County Historical Society; and the United Ostomy Association. Funeral service will be held at 1:30PM on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH with Pastor Christine Matthews and Pastor Lauren Allen co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Troy, OH. The family will receive friends from 11:30AM -1:30PM on Monday at the funeral home.
