Rev. Howard Paul Spitnale passed away 10:40 PM Saturday June 23, 2007 at Middletown Regional Hospital - Middletown, Ohio. He was born July 7, 1920 in Oakwood, Ohio the son of Roy and Ida Dunlap Spitnale. He graduated from Continental High School Ohio, Taylor University Indiana, and Westminster Theological Seminary now Wesley in Maryland. He married Lura Joyce Moye on July 23, 1942 in Whitewater, Indiana. He was a student pastor in Osseo and Yale Michigan, McCabe and Melvindale in Detroit Michigan, and Taylorsville Maryland. He pastored in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church at Carthage and Wilke in Cincinnati, Franklin First, St. Paul's in Napoleon, Grace in Zanesville, and First in Troy. He was District Superintendent of the Wilmington District from 1971 - 1977. He was an Associate Director of Corporate Development for the Otterbein Retirement Home from 1982 - 2004. He served on several conference boards and was trustee of several agencies for the church. He is survived by his wife, daughter and son-in-law Diana and Rev.Duane Miller, Troy Michigan; son and daughter-in-law Nelson Spitnale and Lynn Wheat, Springfield Virginia; former daughter-in-law Sue Munson Springfield Virginia, four grandchildren and spouses - David and Loreen Miller, Jamestown Michigan; Elizabeth and Andy Williams, Chicago Illinois; Thomas and Cortney Spitnale, Salem Virginia; Carrie and Joshua Nowell, Sterling Virginia; two step-granddaughters, Carolyn Koenig, San Diego California and Kim Rodrigue, Manassas, Virginia; six great grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and wife Marvin and Millie Spitnale, Delphos Ohio; sister-in-law Phyllis Spitnale, Cloverdale Ohio; former sister-in-law Harriet Healy, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; sister-in-law Mrs. Donna Hunt, Columbus Georgia, brother-in-law and spouse - Rev. Mansfield Jim and Rosemary Hunt, Willis, Texas; former sister-in-law Marybeth Hunt, Penney Farms, Florida; many nieces and nephews, and friend Katie Deetrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers - Gene and Kenneth, brother-in-law John Hunt and one great grandchild. A service will be held Wednesday June 27, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Continental Ohio followed by burial at Cascade Cemetery, Perry Township, Putnam County, Ohio. The Reverend Gary Hughes will officiate. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial service will be held Saturday July 14, 2007 at 1:00PM at Otterbein United Methodist Church at the Otterbein Lebanon Retirement Community near Lebanon Ohio. The Reverend Gary Hughes will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund for Benevolent Care at Otterbein Home.
