HOWARD MACKEY SPEARS was called to Heaven to join son Keith on Friday, December 7, 2018.  Mack was born December 20, 1946 to Floyd and Ruth (Pearson) Spears.  He married Nancy Plantz, July 25, 1970, and she survives, along with son Michael, daughter-in-law Sara and grandchildren Andrew and Audrey.  He is also survived by one brother Jerry Spears, three sisters Mary Sue (Carl) Shoup, Betty (Tom) Kirk, and Jane (Dennis) McDaniel and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Keith.

Mack was an Army Veteran serving in active duty from 1966-1968 and reserve duty through 1972.  Upon discharge from the Army, he joined the Sheet Metal Workers Union as an apprentice and continued his career in the sheet metal industry for 49 ½ years, retiring in July 2017.

His favorite things were traveling, trains, politics, history and nieces Leanne and Lauren.  Mack enjoyed watching all levels of sports.  He participated in playing recreational basketball and baseball in his youth.  He was involved with many youth programs including coaching Pee Wee football and little league baseball.  He was a Webelos Scout Leader and basketball referee.

Howard was a Do-it yourselfer, enjoying repair and construction projects around the house and always welcomed new challenges and learning something new.  He was a devoted husband and father and will be painfully missed by family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.  Burial will follow in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, OH.  Friends may call from 4:00-7:00PM on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the funeral home.
