Helen R. Updike, age 96, of Troy, Ohio died Monday, December 18, 2006 at Harborside Healthcare Center, Troy. She was born of the late Floyd Rush and Nellie Gorman Rush. She married Robert Updike who preceded her in death in 1961. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Marilyn Updike, sisters, Mary Gray and Norma Rush, two grandchildren, Jeffrey Brandi Updike and Jenni Nathan Myers, great-grandchildren, John Theodore "Theo" Updike, Caeli Updike, and Sofie Myers, nieces, Judy Pelton and Janet Gordon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and also her son, Robert "Ted" Updike, sisters, Lois Wilhelm and Lucille Bostic, and great-granddaughter, Karen Ashton Updike. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Troy, member and instructor of Class 12 and member of the women's circle of the church, ABWA, Mother's Club, OEA, NEA, Troy Senior Citizens and enjoyed participating in the senior trips on occasion. She was a graduate of Wittenberg University. She was an educator with the Troy Schools for more than 41 years, including 35 years at Concord Elementary. Personally, she was an avid euchre player and enjoyed bingo. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Services will be held 2:00PM Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with the Rev. Al Bastin officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Troy.
