Obituary

Helen Loree Hearst Royer, age 89 of Troy, Ohio passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2005 at Koester Pavilion, Troy. She is survived by her son, Philip Dean Royer and daughter-in-law, Patricia Marie Herrick of Troy, OH; granddaughters, Jessica Wesley McCoy of Troy, OH and Gretchen Joseph Schmitmeyer of Greenville, OH; stepgrandchildren, Lydia Herrick of Troy, OH; Lisa Burke of Troy, OH and Andrew Arnold of Richmond, IN; great-grandchildren, Keili McCoy and Ian Schmitmeyer; sisters-in-law, Ruth Royer of Bradford, OH and Reene Royer of Gilroy, CA and former daughter-in-law, Suzanne Royer of Troy, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Edwin Royer in 1975, her parents, James Leon and Golda Reeder Hearst and brother, James. Born in Piqua, OH, Mrs. Royer graduated from Piqua High School in 1934 and from Stayman's Ideal Business College in 1936. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Miami County Extension office, the Miami County Farm Bureau and during WWII at Hobart Brothers Company. Later she served as volunteer at Stouder Memorial Hospital with the Pinkies and as a tutor at Kyle Elementary school. Mrs. Royer studied piano and organ with Herman Astheimer and served as pianist for her church choir for over forty years. She is a member of the Troy Church of the Brethren and a former member of the Troy Senior Citizens and Alturian club. A private family service will be held with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross Katrina Hurricane Relief Fund. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her family and friends.
