Helen J. Gurklies Helen J. Gurklies, age 95, formerly of Troy, OH died Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Brookdale Place in Englewood, OH. She was born May 7, 1914 in New Salem, PA. Helen is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Gurklies of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael from Russia and Mary Sofenetz Risko from Romania , husband William Gurklies who she married November 4, 1945 and who died March 7, 1986; a daughter, Carol Pokorney who died on Sept. 11, 1994; three brothers, George, Michael, and Stephen Risko and a sister, Anna Risko. Helen attended First Lutheran Church, Troy, OH. She worked as a government employee at WACO during WWII where she met her husband then worked at Hobart Brothers and finished her career at Hobart Mfg. all in Troy, OH. Helen enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, and traveling with her family. The family expresses their deep appreciation to all personnel at Brookdale Place of Englewood and Heartland Hospice who provided loving care to Helen for several years. Funeral services will be 1:00PM Friday, February 19, 2010 at Riverside Cemetery Chapel, Troy, OH with Chaplain Candy Null officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Troy, OH.
