Harriet E. Urick, age 93, passed away on October 7, 2009, at Troy Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born to the late Harley and Mary McNeal Urick on August 17, 1916. Harriet grew up in Elizabeth Township and lived most of her life there until she moved to Troy following her father's death. She was a graduate of Elizabeth School in 1934. She was a seamstress for Lippincott Clothing Store, worked at GTE Phone Company, and for a number of years worked for the City of Troy in the billing department. She retired early to care for her ailing mother. She is survived by a niece, Carol Urick Renshaw of Troy; nephew William JoyceUrick of Troy, Galen Donna Urick of Troy, Dean Bonnie Urick of Dayton; sister-in-law Josephine Urick of Casstown, Ohio, and great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harriet was a member of First United Methodist Church of Troy, United Methodist Women and was an honorary member of Troy Senior Citizens. She volunteered many hours at Stouder Hospital in the gift shop and at the Hayner Cultural Center. She was a member of the Historical Society in Troy. She and a group of ladies met weekly for Bible study. Harriet loved to sew, making her own dresses and suits. She enjoyed all of her little nieces and nephews and watching them grow up. In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by her brothers Horace Urick, 1963 and Gilbert Urick, 1975. Services will be held Monday, October 12, 2009, at 1:00 PM at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with Rev. Dr. James C. Wilson II officiating. Interment will follow at Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Ohio. Friends may call at Baird Funeral Home from 3-5 PM on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, please give to First United Methodist Church of Troy, Hospice of Miami County, or a favorite charity.
