Greg Richard Wertz, AKA: WertzWorld
A bright light was extinguished from our lives on January 31, 2024 … the day we lost a dear friend, loving family member, husband, soulmate and best friend. He was born into this world on April 23, 1953 in Columbus, OH.
He was preceded in passing by his parents: Gladys M. Wertz and Dean V. Wertz and mother-in-law: Madeline Hunsicker and is survived by his dear wife of 36 years: Patricia "Patti" Ann (Hunsicker) Wertz; brother: Steven V. Wertz; loving father-in-law: Bob Hunsicker and wife Ethel; many brothers and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and two Kittie Cats: Cece and Savannah. He is also survived by an "extended family" of friends who were all proud to be "Citizens of WertzWorld".
Greg graduated from North East High School in Springfield, OH in 1971. He attended and graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor of Science in 1976 and Masters Degree in Education in 1980.
He helped many during his career with the Board of Developmental Disabilities enriching the lives of those who needed it the most. After retirement, his love for nature and wildlife led him to a second career as a Park Technician at Five Rivers Metro Park. He worked there landscaping and building handmade bridges. Greg built many bridges in his life, some at Metro Parks but mostly to those friends and loved ones that he cherished so much.
He was a hardworking, self-made man and a very unique individual. He was a mover and shaker, and lived life to the fullest. He was a fierce friend, always helping others, making plans for the next adventure and was always quick to offer a great story about it. Aways bringing everyone together with love of friends, music, beer, and bourbon.
Simply put, Greg loved music. He enjoyed a lifetime of playing the guitar and mandolin. He had a love of all types of music and shared that love with those around him. He was always listening to music and loved going to music concerts.
Greg was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Elm Valley Fishing Club. He enjoyed fishing, bike riding, traveling, and entertaining his friends.
His favorite place on earth was Fort Myers Beach in Florida. He always wanted to go back to the island and visit his mom and dad and many friends. So many good memories had by all. During Christmas he would dress up in his Santa Clause suit and stroll down the beach handing out candy canes and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Greg's signature food was shrimp and apple fritters.
At a later date, an announcement will be made about a Celebration of Greg's life and legacy.
For all his WertzWorld friends and family, you will remain in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten.
Bubbles Up Everyone!
