Grace Bethena Anderson was born April 5, 1910 in Fairview, Ohio now part of Dayton, Ohio to Rev. Allen and Laura Bowman Dunkelberger. She graduated from Steele High School in Dayton, Ohio. She received her lifetime teaching certificate from Dayton Normal School in Dayton, Ohio in 1930. She taught elementary grades at McGuffey and Drexel Schools in Dayton for eleven years. She married C. Charles Pierce Anderson on June 29, 1941. They moved to Union City, Indiana to live and raise their three children. When the children were older, she returned to teaching. She taught eleven years at Mississinawa Valley School in Union City, Ohio. She and her daughters moved to Troy, Ohio in 1977. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died May 3, 1969, her brothers, Stanley, Byron and Milton Dunkelberger, her sisters, Mary Fahnestock and Maude Dunkelberger, son, Charles Chuck Allen Anderson, and best friend of seventy-eight years, Helen Weinert of Dayton, Ohio who died July 4, 2001. Survivors include daughter, Bethena Anderson of Troy, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Anderson Horstman and Tom Horstman, their daughter, Heather of Sidney, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Nancy Anderson of Fishers, Indiana; grandchildren, Jeff Anderson, wife, Amy, their son, Cameron of Fishers, Indiana; Wendy Anderson Bonenberger, husband, Brett and their son, Nicholas of Carmel, Indiana; Karly Anderson Vernon, husband, Bill and their son, William of Fishers, Indiana; Christy Anderson Brown, husband, Chris and their daughter, Caitlyn of Noblesville, Indiana; nephews, Jack Dunkelberger, wife, Evelyn of Sarasota, Florida; and Stanley Allen Fahnestock, wife, Joyce of Dayton. Her hobbies included painting watercolor still life pictures, sewing, doing craft work, and genealogy. She was a member of the women's circle of the First United Methodist Church of Troy, Ohio. Private services for Mrs. Anderson will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Union City Cemetery, Union City, Indiana. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
