George W. Vorpe, Sr., age 88, of Troy, Ohio died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Harborside Healthcare Center, Troy. He was born of the late Elmer and Blanche Bodey Vorpe. He was preceded in death by both of his wives, Freida and Mary along with his brothers, Elmer and Stanley, sister, Kathleen Rice, and stepson, Joe Hobbs Jr. He is survived by his children and their spouses, George W. Violet Vorpe, Jr; Mary Hersholt Ford; Sharon Irvin Meek; and Richard Vorpe; stepdaughter, Gertie Mullins; brother, Carl Vorpe; sisters, Harriett Stephenson, Jean Simmons, Ruth Ellen Maurer, and Carol Persinger and sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Oma Vorpe; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Troy Baptist Temple. He had served in the CCC and helped build the Kiser Lake. He was a retired machinist with BF Goodrich Company, Troy after 25 years of service.
