George L. Stephens George L. Stephens, age 68, formerly of Troy, Ohio, more recently of West Union, Ohio, died on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at his residence as a result of a homicide. He was born on July 26, 1942 in Greenup, Kentucky, to Kathleen Boggs Evans of New Carlisle, Ohio and the late Romerle Stephens. His wife, Shirley L. Stephens, preceded him in death on March 19, 1991. Survivors include his mother, Kathleen Evans; one son, Beau Stephens of West Union, Ohio; one daughter, April Payne of Columbus, Ohio; five brothers: Bill Evans of Jacksonville, Florida, Fred Evans of Jacksonville, Florida, Roy Evans of Ashland, Kentucky, James Evans of Troy and Bruce Evans of Troy; two sisters: Clara Stephens of Flatwoods, Kentucky and Ellen Stephens of Canton, Ohio; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one aunt, Gathel Pertuset of Otway, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Sonja Stephens; two brothers: William and Joe Stephens; two sisters, Kay White and Goldie Baldridge; and one granddaughter, Harley Stephens. George was a US Navy Veteran. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, May 6, 2011 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with interment to follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio. Military Honors Services by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard will be held at the graveside. Friends may call from 4-8PM Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the funeral home.
